Respons-Able Educator Certificate (REC) Cohort - May 23, 2022

Vita-Learn in partnership with Digital Respons-Ability is offering a Response-Able Educator Certificate (REC) cohort that will begin with in-person instruction at Dynamic Landscapes followed by asynchronous self-paced online learning in combination with two (2) synchronous online cohort gatherings during the summer and an opportunity to present and share your learning at our fall conference, Vermont Fest. Participants that present at Vermont Fest are provided a 1-Day registration for the conference at no cost!

The Respons-Able Educator Certification (REC) is a whole new way to help teachers embed and implement digial citizenship elements in their classroom. Based on tens of thousands of hours teaching digital citizenship to students, this professional learning helps teachers build skills in not only their students, but themselves. The REC program addresses digital citizenship holistically, covering topics such as media literacy, communication, the digital economy and more. It has downloadables, lesson plans, videos and other guides that teachers can use long after they finish the program. With 10 self-study asynchronous modules, teachers who complete REC can earn be school digital leaders, changing the culture and education around digital citizenship.

Carrie Rogers-Whitehouse

The cohort will be led by Carrie Rogers-Whitehouse and Jeff Mao.

Carrie Rogers-Whitehouse is the founder of Digital Respons-Ability, a mission-based company that works with educators, parents and students to teach digital citizenship. Her company provides training to tens of thousands of students, parents, and educators across her state of Utah and beyond.

Before starting Digital Respons-Ability Carrie worked almost a decade in public libraries in youth services. She continues to consult and teach with libraries and is the co-author of the forthcoming book Advocating Digital Citizenship: Resources for the Library and Classroom.

Carrie is a former TEDx speaker and regularly presents on technology, digital citizenship, education and parenting. She frequently writes and researches on technology and has been a regular contributor to ISTE and other sources. Carrie is the author of several academic titles and recently won a 2021 Outstanding Reference Source List from the American Library Association for one of her books.

Jeff Mao is the Executive Director of Vita-Learn. Prior to joining Vita-Learn, Jeff was the Senior Director for Education at Common Sense Media where he led the organization’s national outreach team responsible for supporting digital citizenship programming and professional development in US schools.
