Newsela: Bright spots: Resilience and school communities
February 23 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST
“This is what school should be like every day”
That’s what one California superintendent, David Miyashiro, had to say when they turned the school day on its head by bringing in after school enrichment providers to teach during the “regular” school day. Students had rich experiences in classes like art, robotics, and gym, teachers found some much-needed respite, and the school community learned that by focusing on joy everyone would be more able to take on the challenges that lay ahead.
Join David and the rest of our panel as they share how their work is bolstered by educators, students, and parents as partners — and most importantly, what the work looks like on the ground.
Key takeaways will be:
Including parents, caregivers, and learners on learning design and decisions
Incorporating whole-child practices into curriculum and instruction
Establishing new processes catalyzed by distance and hybrid learning models
Not able to make it? Newsela will send all registrants a recording of the session to view and share with your colleagues.
