Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Training offered by Vermont AOE

Offered by the Vermont Agency of Education. Training provided by the U.S. Department of Education Privacy Technical Assistance Center.
AOE is working with the US DOE Privacy Technical Assistance Center to bring to Vermont a free professional learning opportunity on data privacy and cybersecurity. This training is for SU/SD school personnel only. Identical training seminars will be offered on two separate days to allow IT staff to attend and still allow coverage at their respective work sites. Here’s the agenda.

Space is limited to 55 people per day. Each SU/SD may register no more than two individuals. If you and your staff are interested in attending, please register by sending an email to lisa.helme@vermont.gov with the names, job titles, emails, contact phone numbers, and date of preferred attendance (October 19 or 20). Registration is due by September 30.

About PTAC
The U.S. Department of Education established the Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) as a “one-stop” resource for education stakeholders to learn about data privacy, confidentiality, and security practices related to student-level longitudinal data systems and other uses of student data. PTAC provides timely information and updated guidance on privacy, confidentiality, and security practices.
Your Trainer
Ross Lemke serves as the manager for the Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) with over 10 years of experience providing TA around education data. He helps state and local education agencies, schools, districts, and postsecondary institutions develop an understanding of FERPA privacy and data security. He provides timely support through the PTAC helpdesk, on-site technical assistance visits, development of technical guidance documents, and live webinars. Prior to his work with PTAC, Ross has provided TA around numerous U.S. Department of Education data collections including EDFacts, Civil Rights Data Collection, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
