Building Strong Foundational Literacy Skills with Your PreK–3 Students
March 24, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT
Presenters: Jeff Rothenberger and Justin Fye
Help students be effective and proficient readers by the end of 3rd grade by using adaptive literacy tools. Justin Fye, Philipsburg Elementary School principal, and Jeff Rothenberger will discuss how you too can improve your students’ reading levels, have instant access to their progress, provide practice with interactive phonics texts, and put thousands of books at students’ fingertips while learning to read. Justin will share his personal insights into the efficacy, implementation, professional development, progress monitoring data, and more using the Rosen LevelUp foundational literacy program. LevelUp provides students with an award-winning library of more than 2,400 authentic texts, leveled texts, controlled vocabulary books, and phonics books with decodable text. Teachers use LevelUp to personalize the learning experience and promote and track the successful acquisition of key reading skills necessary at the younger grades. Explore how student data is used to correlate and develop personalized instruction around state standards and/or literacy skills. The built-in interactive resources, printable books, and activities support instruction via distance learning, blended learning, or face-to-face instruction. Students are excited to listen to books read aloud by authors instead of electronic voices and to know all books are printable, which allows for tactile experiences in class or at home and makes books accessible to siblings and others in the household. Students benefit from positive reinforcement and LevelUp Land motivates and rewards students using gamification.
A distinguished literacy leader had this to say: “Rosen LevelUp is a powerful adaptive literacy platform that allows teachers to easily sort texts to align to their instructional design as well as to their students’ instructional needs. It is the ability to flex the resource and to use it across the gradual release within the literacy block that makes it so special. The benefit to the student is immediate, as texts are accessible in various formats and can be utilized in any classroom at any time. The ease of integration is a great strength of the platform.” —Amber Molloy, Program Administrator of Literacy for Montgomery County, PA
